How To Create An Effective Mission Statement
Do you know what it is that you do? Does your client know? An effective mission statement would assist in summarizing who you are, what you do, and the values that are upheld. It can serve as a simple reminder that is descriptive yet concise.
So how do you create a mission statement that will present who you are?
1. Brainstorm
Write all the things that come to mind when you think of your business. Just keep writing! And if you have a partner or team get them involved too. This is a great step because it forces you to really sit and think of what your purpose or goal is. Many times businesses are started without the idea of an overall purpose or long term vision.
2. Narrow It Down
Review all the content and begin to narrow it down to get to the heart of the matter. Keep in mind that the mission statement describes your mission which is synonymous with assignment, job, vocation, etc. (Look it up)
3. Finesse Time
Now that the statement has been narrowed down, it is time to reword. Write a few different versions and see what fits your business and culture best.
4. Review
Review the mission statement and have individuals you trust do the same. Get feedback. Once satisfied you can move on.
5. Put It All Over!
Display your business’s mission statement on the inside of your business and on the outside. Be proud of it and hold to it.
Super excited for you to create an effective mission statement that will help others understand your reason for existence. Feel free to share your mission statement, we would love to read them. Still struggling? Do you just need an example? Here are some that will hopefully help you on your journey.
